Why pet hair never really comes off

Dog and cat hair does not just sit on the couch. Short hairs work their way into the weave, and every time someone sits down they get pushed in a little deeper. A sticky roller grabs what is on top and then runs out of sheets. The vacuum is great on the floor, but dragging it out for one cushion, or out to the car, is exactly why the hair stays.

What the mitt does instead

The gray side is made of two halves of short bristles that lean toward the middle. Rub back and forth and each stroke pulls hair toward the center, where it bunches into one strip. Pinch it, peel it off, keep going. There is no sheet to tear off, no plug and nothing to buy again.

The bristles do the grabbing. Rubbing also builds a little static, which helps fine fluff cling. That is the whole trick.

Where it works, and where it does not

It is made for fabric: couches and cushions, car seats and mats, beds and blankets, clothes, cat trees and low rugs. It will not do hard floors, and on leather or smooth vinyl there is nothing for the bristles to catch, so a damp cloth is quicker. Short, stiff hairs stuck deep in a tight weave take more strokes than long, soft fur.

Why two

Hair piles up in more than one place. Keep one by the couch and one in the car door, and it is there when you need it, which is the only way a cleaning tool actually gets used.

Care

After each session, pinch the strip of hair and pull it off. When the mitt gets grubby, rinse it under warm water with a drop of dish soap, squeeze it out and let it dry completely before you use it again. Skip fabric softener, since it is made to stop static. The mitt works best on dry fabric.

Try delicate fabric on a hidden spot first.
